HOW TO START WRITING?? WHAT MUST I WRITE FIRST???

Those sentences above sometimes come up in our mind when we want to start writing something especially in academic writing. Right?? ^__^

In this occasion, I would like to share in terms of writing essay. Have a look the steps!

But before we turn into the steps, I just wanna to remind all of you guys that this written will more concerns about Essay Writing Skills in IELTS Test. Okay ^^

Essay Writing Skills

The four-stage procedure when writing essay is:

• Analysing the topic and task (understanding the question, brain storming ideas)
• Preparing a plan
• Writing the Essay
• Proofreading and checking

Tip!

Brainstorming is an important skill in the IELTS test. Choose a topic and spend a few minutes thinking of related ideas and vocabulary.

Structure of An Essay

 The structure of An Essay consists of 3 parts. Those are:

1. Introduction (about 40 words)
2. Body (about 180 words)
3. Conclusion (about 30 words)

This is an example about how to write the introduction of a topic. The topic is:

Many business find it is very difficult to assign enough time and resources to research and development. What could a goverment do to encourage more company spending in this area?

The steps are follow:

Topic words
'resources' and 'research' and development'

Task words
'what could a goverment do...'

The writer's position
The writer will make suggestions.

General statemet
Research and deveopment is expensive and companies try to avoid spending money on it.

What the writer plans to say
Goverments could offer tax advantages and research grants to companies. These incentives would help to increase employment and creativity.

The introduction will reads as follows:
Research and development is very expensive, so companies often try to avoid spending money in this area. Goverments could encourage work in research and development by offering tax advantages and research grants to companies. These incentives would help to increase employment and creativity.
